At Fairfield, we want every child to feel safe, happy, and ready to learn. Our Behaviour Policy helps us create a calm and caring school where children can do their best. Everything we do is guided by our school values of Respect, Empathy, and Resilience. These values are taught in lessons, assemblies, and through everyday school life, helping children understand how to treat others and how to manage challenges.
Our Behaviour Policy sets out clear expectations so that everyone in our school community understands what good behaviour looks like. We want to build a positive learning environment where children feel confident, supported, and proud of their achievements. The policy also helps us spot any behaviour concerns early, so we can offer the right support. We work closely with parents and carers to make sure children receive consistent messages at home and at school.
To help children understand what is expected, we use three simple Golden Rules. These rules are used in every classroom and around the school:
These rules help children make good choices and understand how their actions affect others.
We believe children learn best when they feel valued and recognised. Staff use praise, encouragement, and positive language to help children build confidence and pride in their behaviour. We celebrate success in many ways, including house points, certificates, class awards, leadership roles, and weekly celebration assemblies. Rewards are always earned and are not taken away later, as we want children to feel motivated and secure in their achievements.
Sometimes children make mistakes, and we help them learn from these moments. If behaviour does not meet expectations, we use fair and consistent consequences. Some behaviours are considered “red line” behaviours, which means they need immediate action. Staff follow a clear system, but they can adapt their response to meet the needs of each child and situation. Our Behaviour Policy also applies outside the school building, including on trips, on the journey to and from school, and online. This helps keep everyone safe and ensures pupils always represent Fairfield in a positive way.
Keeping Everyone Safe
In rare situations, staff may need to take action to keep children safe. This may include using reasonable force to prevent harm or confiscating items that are unsafe or not allowed in school. If this happens, the incident is recorded and shared with parents as soon as possible, so everyone understands what happened and why.
We know that some children need extra help with their behaviour, and we are committed to supporting them. This may include mentoring, pastoral support, safe spaces, counselling, SEND referrals, behaviour plans, or working closely with families. Our aim is always to help children succeed, feel understood, and develop the skills they need to manage their behaviour well.
Fairfield has a zero‑tolerance approach to bullying. We teach children how to be kind, respectful, and understanding, and we encourage them to speak up if they have concerns. We take part in events such as Anti-Bullying Week, Safer Internet Day, Mental Health Awareness activities, and charity events that promote kindness and community. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in and support these important messages at home.
