At Fairfield, we want every child to enjoy school and do their very best. To achieve this, children need to be in school every day and on time. When a child is late, they miss important learning and may feel uncomfortable walking into class after everyone else. This can affect both their progress and their confidence.
Please help your child by making sure they arrive at school on time each day.
We understand that children get ill, and sometimes they need to stay at home or see a doctor. But taking lots of single days off can quickly add up.
Many children can still come to school with minor illnesses such as:
If your child is feeling a bit unwell, please bring them to school and let a member of staff know. We can give medication such as Calpol if needed — you just need to fill in a form at the school office.
If your child becomes worse during the day, we will contact you straight away.
For advice on when children should stay off school, please see the official Public Health England guidance: Guidance on infection control in schools.
What is good attendance?
We expect all children to have at least 96% attendance. This is the same as the national expectation.
If a child has 10 unauthorised absences in 6 weeks, the Local Authority may issue a penalty notice of up to £120.
Can I take a holiday in term-time?
There are 175 non‑school days each year for holidays and family time. Holidays during term time will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Unauthorised holidays may lead to a penalty notice of up to £120 from the Local Authority.
How does Fairfield promote good attendance?
We celebrate and support good attendance in many ways, including:
If you would like to talk about your child’s attendance or punctuality, please speak to your child’s class teacher or a member of the senior leadership team. We are here to help.
Please see our attendance policy for more details.
